Cap com has updated its best-selling game list, revealing that Resident Evil 7 is now the best game of survival horror.
The game has been a real break in relation to the standards of the franchise because it has introduced a first-person view that has been very debated among the fans, because the IP roots are in the third person view with fixed cameras.
Sales confirm that it was the right call for Cap com to open this new forehead, with a different story requiring certain gameplay elements and characters from the original saga.
Resident Evil 7 has indeed sold 7.9 million units, also thanks to the fact that it has been sold at low prices for a long time.
Its sales have steadily increased in recent years, and have obtained 400,000 additional units since March 31.
This means that this is the best singular title of Resident Evil to date, in front of Resident Evil 2, released in 2019 and always at 7.2 million copies.
Resident Evil 7 is also the second most sold Cap com game from all time, only behind Monster Hunter World (16.1 million, total), confirming its success based on a beloved intellectual property and a reinvention.
It should be noted that Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 are always in advance when combining all the different editions available, while Resident Evil 7 has not published other versions after his initial launch.
Looking at the numbers, it is not surprising that Cap com continues the story of RE7 with Resident Evil Village next year.
Village follows the plot of this game and also inherits game mechanisms, such as the first person view, while extending it to introducing a deeper exploration component.
It will be released in 2021 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and should be the first Cap com's new generation game.
